This course has been specifically designed to introduce local authority staff to the area of waste management and regulation.

The course covers the key legal requirements placed on individuals and businesses concerning the management of their waste and the powers available to local authorities  in dealing with waste management issues. Legal requirements and best practice around waste management are presented in a succinct but comprehensive format.

o    Landfill Directive and Household Waste Recycling Act

Waste Legislation Enforcement
o    Waste regulators and enforcement powers and penalties
o    LA Business waste enforcement powers
o    LA Household waste enforcement powers
o    Scope of powers and role of other agencies

Enforcement and prosecutions
o    Case studies of prosecutions for waste offences

Duration: 3 hours 30 minutes

The course comprises 3 30-45min sessions with exercises and Q&A sessions.
