Scots urged to buy locally

Scots have been urged to source food locally to help Scottish farmers hard hit by foot and mouth restrictions. This follows the initiative set by Moray Council and support from politicians, environmentalists and farmers unions.

NFU Scotland’s “What’s On Your Plate” campaign aims to encourage people to choose Scottish food and drink. MP Pete Wishart has backed the buy-local campaign. “I would urge people across Scotland to ask for local produce in the shops, to support local shops, to buy seasonal produce where possible and to visit local farmers markets,” said the MP.

Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and the Environment Richard Lochhead has also issued a call to processors and retailers to buy more Scottish food.
