Grants available for environmental initiatives in Y&H.

A grant programme has been launched to help businesses in the Yorkshire and Humber region improve their resource efficiency.

The programme has two elements: a fund supporting capital projects and  another fund supporting environmental advice and consultancy.

Up to £8,000 grant (at a 20% grant rate) is available to support capital projects. A capital project involves the purchase of equipment or machinery which will reduce the company’s waste, energy and/or water usage. Examples of capital projects include the purchase of:

  • More efficient production equipment
  • More efficient electric motors or drives
  • Improved heating or lighting fixtures or controls
  • Less energy intensive refrigeration equipment
  • Water saving equipment
Up to £2,500 grant (at a 50% grant rate) is available to help a company to access consultancy support to reduce waste, energy and/or water usage. Examples of  eligible projects:
  • Energy assessment and activity to reduce usage
  • Waste identification and reduction
  • Water usage review and improvement
  • Developing recycling opportunities
  • Support to implement environmental management systems
It is possible to apply for both, however the level of grant awarded will be based on the projected savings. This will require demonstrating that the combined capital and consultancy project will deliver more savings than if each project was implemented in separation.
