Environmental News: Envirofutures Launches Site Waste Management Plan Training course



EnviroFutures has launched two new Site Wate Management Plan training workshops to help companies involved in construction comply with new legislation.

A SWMP records the amount and type of waste produced on a construction site and how it will be reused, recycled or disposed. Site Waste Management Plans (SWMP) compulsory for all construction projects in England costing over £300,000.The new Site Waste Management Regulations came into effect on April 6th and companies have until July 2008 to implement them for all construction sites.

The construction industry is a major source of waste in England, using the highest tonnage of solid resources in any sector and discarding over 400 million tonnes of material. The construction, demolition & excavation (CD&E) sector generates more waste in England than any other sector, and is the largest generator of hazardous waste.

The EnviroFutures offers two training course options that can be taken individually or in combination. These are

Option 1 - An Introduction to SWMP’s
This half day workshop provides an introduction to SWMPs, an overview of the Regulations and their requirements and practical examples of what your organisation needs to do to comply.

The workshop will cover:

o    What is a SWMP?
o    What are the requirements of the SWMP Regulations?
o    Who and what projects do the Regulations apply to?
o    What does this mean in practice?
o    What should be included in a SWMP and how are they used?
o    Case study examples.
o    Where to get more help?

The course provides those involved with devising SWMPs with the necessary tools and knowledge to begin working towards compliance and to help ensure that the Requirements are met.

Course Costs:
£99.00 + VAT per delegate

Option 2 - SWMPs in practice
This 5 hour, stand-alone workshop will enable you to put SWMPs into practice. Begining with an introduction to SWMPs delegates will then examine the key stages in drawing up a Plan, learn how to implement it and then put it into practice by completing a SWMP for a real site.

The workshop will include:
o    An overview of the SWMP Regulations.
o    Roles and responsibilities under the legislation.
o    Implications for projects above and below £500,000
o    The key stages in drawing up a SWMP
o    Implementation of the SWMP
o    Devising a draft SWMP

The workshop will enable delegates to devise a draft SWMP and return to their organisations with the necessary knowledge to help ensure that they are able to fully meet the requirements of the Regulations.

Training is generally delivered at the EnviroFutures offices at the Sheffield Technology Park in Sheffield. However,  our specialist tutors can also provide training onsite, at a time convenient to you and your colleagues. We recommend that the training group has a minimum of 8 trainees for any course.
