Researchers say UK’s addiction to cheap flights looks hard to break

Britons are "addicted" to cheap flights and confused about the climate impact of flying, according to research. In a government-funded study, even people living generally "green" lives said they were reluctant to fly less. Most don’t feel any significant guilt at all about short-haul flights - with many praising them for broadening their horizons.
The Exeter University team that carried out the research says cheap flights have become a lifestyle choice. Geographer Dr Stewart Barr, co-author of the research, said: "The UK’s addiction to cheap flights looks hard to break. No matter how green people rate themselves, unfortunately only the most die-hard environmentalists are reducing their short-haul travel – and even then only very reluctantly."
